I started a new job last month. On the first day, I felt nervous. I didn’t know anyone, and everything was new. I walked into the office, smiled, and said “Good morning” to a few people. Some smiled back, and that made me feel better.
During lunch, one of my coworkers invited me to sit with her. Her name was Maya. She asked where I was from and what I liked to do. We talked about music, food, and our weekend plans. Soon, other coworkers joined in. By the end of the lunch break, I had met five new people.
Now, I talk to them every day. We share jokes, help each other with work, and even go out for coffee sometimes. I’m glad I took that first step to say hello. Meeting new people helped me feel part of the team.
At first, it was hard to start conversations in English. I worried about saying the wrong thing. But the more I spoke, the more confident I became. I learned simple phrases like “Nice to meet you,” “Where are you from?” and “What do you like to do?”
Now I know—meeting new people doesn’t have to be scary. It just takes a smile, a few kind words, and a little courage.
